How to make relationship between planning and control ?

Planning and controlling are practically inseparable to extent that they have been termed the Siamese twins of management "Weichrich and Koontz".
planning enable people to know where they are going and how to get there , but the only way for them to know whether they are going where they are going where they want to go and rate at which they are doing so is through controlling .
and controlling provides inputs for further planning activities as extent to which a  plan is achieved is the foundation for next plan .

Planning and controlling are thus strictly speaking not separate processes but a continuum moving from where the organization wants to go , to activities necessary to reach that destination and finally to measurement of extent to which the destination has been reached .

Plan without control is useless since there is no way of ascertaining the extent to which the plan is being achieved and control without plan is meaningless since there is no purpose for control.

Weichrich and Koontz are said :"any attempt to control without plans is meaningless since there is no way for people to tell whether they are going where they want to go " the result of the taske of control ", unless they first know where they want to go ".

Controlling is continuation of planning process since plans provides the frame work for controlling system and process , any change in plans should be followed by corresponding changes in controls .
if this does not happen , the organization would suffer some adverse performance related consequnces it is also important to note that control does not begin at the end of planning process
